DepEd to File Case vs Officials Involved in Overpriced Laptops

DepEd Officials Involved in Overpriced Laptops to Face Criminal Charges

The Department of Education (DepEd) will file a case against officials who will be caught involved in overpriced laptops.

The DepEd will delegate the filing of the complaint against the officials and staff engaged in the allegedly unpurchased pricey laptop to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG). In a Viber message, DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa stated that the department is ready to accept the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s formal findings.

“The filing of cases against past and present officials of the DepEd, as recommended by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, will be referred to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) for evaluation and appropriate action,” according to Poa.

DepEd Officials Overpriced Laptops

This is related to the DepEd laptop purchase in 2021 through the Procurement Service – Department of Budget and Management, or PS-DBM, based on the report. Poa also promised that DepEd would take swift action against officials and workers who were supposedly not involved in the alleged incident.

“There is a pending administrative case against one DepEd employee involved in the procurement,” he added.

According to the report, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee previously recommended the filing of graft charges against some incumbent and former DepEd and PS-DBM officials, in addition to charges of falsification of public documents and perjury. Meanwhile, DepEd is investigating reports that another set of laptops was sold in Cebu.

According to Poa, the department is now collaborating with relevant law enforcement agencies to apprehend the criminals. DepEd confirmed the reported sale of laptops purchased for the DepEd Computerization Program at a surplus outlet.
