LTO Chief Tugade to Public: “Iwasang suhulan ang mga traffic enforcers”
LTO chief secretary Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade urged the public to stop bribing the traffic enforcers to settle traffic violations.
The Land Transportation Office is an agency of the Philippine government under the Department of Transportation responsible for all land transportation in the Philippines. Functions of the LTO include the inspection and registration of motor vehicles, issuance of licenses and permits, enforcement of land transportation rules and regulations, and adjudication of traffic cases.
The Land Transportation Office reminded the public to stop bribing the traffic enforcers implementing the traffic rules and regulations. He made the statement after a car driver tried to bribe the LTO Region 5 law enforcement officers in Sorsogon City.
The traffic enforcers launched “Oplan Ligtas Biyaheng Pasko 2022” along Maharlika Highway in Brgy. Guinlajon, Sorsogon City when they noticed a Toyota Hi-Ace. LTO enforcers Rey Alvin Belgica, Wilfredo Macapagal Jr., Ferdinand Sta Ana Jr., at Gregory Jim Monforte apprehended the vehicle.
The LTO officers discovered that the driver is using his private vehicle to pick up passengers. The driver picked up 17 passengers from Cubao, Quezon City, and headed to Northern Samar when he was caught.
The enforcers asked for his license and vehicle’s registration but they were surprised after the violator secretly handed P3,000 as ‘bribe’.
“The entire LTO and myself laud the actions of our noble traffic enforcers for refusing to accept the alleged bribery attempt, for standing firm in enforcing the law and not be tempted by acts of corruption. They are exceptional public servants that should be emulated by everyone,” Tugade said.
