2 Rookie Cops Accused of Extortion were Arrested in Makati City
Authorities arrested two (2) rookie cops who were accused of extortion by a woman and her partner in Makati City.
Two police officers were arrested in Makati City for allegedly extorting money from a woman and her partner, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) commander Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. The suspects were identified as patrolmen Mark Dann Advincula, 32, and Mark Joseph Segador, 31.
According to the report, the cops are assigned to Makati police substation 6. The two were apprehended in an entrapment operation along A Mabini street in Barangay Poblacion by members of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.
The rookie officers allegedly took two cell phones from a contact center agent and demanded P50,000 in exchange for the devices. Azurin stated that the victim was the subject of a complaint filed by a foreigner who accused her of taking his money and ATM card.
According to the investigation, the victim received a text message from an unnamed individual informing her about the complaint of the foreigner she met on December 8. When she agreed to meet the sender of the message someplace in Makati, she was approached by two police officers, who took her to the police station.
The policemen then took her cell phone, an iPhone Pro Max 13. They went to her house in Quezon City and stole her partner’s cellphone. The cops then demanded money from the victims in exchange for their cell phones.
Instead of complying with their demands, the victims proceeded to the IMEG headquarters in Quezon City and filed a complaint against the officers. The suspects were apprehended with the marked money, their service weapons, and two motorcycles.
The suspects are being held on robbery-extortion allegations. An administrative case for grave misconduct is also being prepared against the two cops, with the consequence of expulsion from service.
