The Gilas Pilipinas national basketball team will face Qatar tonight at around 5:30 P.M., for the first ever Quarter Finals match of the Philippines in the 2014 Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea. The undefeated Qataris national basketball team topped the Group F during their first two games defeating Kuwait and Japan.

The Incheon Asian Games basketball tournament Quarter Finals Round started today, September 26, 2014 featuring the top teams during the elimination round of the competition.

The Philippines is now bracketed with Qatar, Kazakhstan and South Korea forming Group H of the Asian Games basketball. The other Quarter Finalists of the Asian Games forming the Group G, includes teams from China, Mongolia, Iran and Japan.

The Gilas Pilipinas moved on to the quarterfinal stage of the competition after they defeated India although they lost against Iran in a heartbreaking fashion. The Filipinos will be back in intense action after more than 24 hours of suffering a defeat against the Asian powerhouse team, Iran.

The Qatar national basketball team on their part also struggled in the past few years in the Asian basketball scene losing in various international competition against the Filipinos such as in the FIBA Asia Championship and other major international basketball event.

The Qataris also struggled when their naturalized player Jarvis Hayes was bared from the Asian Games, he was replaced by veteran Boney Watson who was added by Qatar on their line-up. The point guard will take the burden off Daoud Musa Daoud, their best point guard during the past few years playing for the national basketball team of Qatar.
