UP Toda Tricycle Drivers Failed to Receive Fuel Subsidy Amid Surging Fuel Prices

UP Toda tricycle drivers expressed their disappointment for failing to receive fuel subsidy amid the surging fuel prices.

Nowadays, the prices of petroleum products play a very important role to the country’s economy. Pump price adjustment usually causes significant impact on prices of products and services in the country.

Pump price hike would contribute to the daily burden of Filipino people especially to those who were using public vehicles for a living and to individuals using private vehicles to reach their point of destination.

UP Toda Tricycle Drivers

Recently, the tricycle drivers of UP TODA in Maharlika Street, Teachers Village in Quezon City have expressed their disappointment for not receiving the fuel subsidy from the government after oil firms impose another oil price hike on Tuesday (April 19, 2022).

Last March 2022, the national government has ordered the release of fuel subsidy for drivers and operators of public utility vehicles amid the increasing prices of petroleum products including gasoline, diesel and kerosene.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced that over 1.2 million tricycle drivers have received their fuel subsidy. The UP Toda drivers are still hoping to receive the cash aid sooner or later.

The TODA group continue to organize a community pantry every Saturday morning despite failing to receive the financial aid. The drivers have been also planting root crops and vegetables to provide the necessities of their families.
