No Paracetamol Price Increase Amid Tight Supply, According to DTI
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said that there will be no Paracetamol price hike amid the brand’s tight supply.
Over the past few days, the tight supply of Paracetamol brands such as Biogesic, Decolgen, Bioflu, Decolgen, Neozep, Symdex, Tuseran, Solmux and other medicines became one of the most trending topics online.
Several Paracetamol brands were currently out of stock in many areas as many people were currently suffering from common diseases after the holiday season. The supply outage happens after COVID-19 Omicron variant entered the Philippines.
“With the heightened vigilance against the Omicron variant, and a number of people getting sick due to various reasons, we are experiencing a temporary shortage of certain brands of paracetamol in some areas,” PHAP said
However, the Trade and Industry Department assured that there is no shortage of supply but the delay of deliveries to replenish the stocks causes the tight supply. The agency also advised the public to avoid panic buying.
On Saturday (January 8, 2021), DTI assured the Filipino people that the price of Paracetamol brands will not increase despite the high demand in Metro Manila and other areas. Several areas remained no stock of Paracetamol.
“Aside from the commitment as to supply ng manufacturers and retailers natin, meron din silang commitment na hindi magtataas ang presyo nito dahil sa temporary stock-outs na na-experience natin recently… Hindi siya sapat na dahilan para itaas ang presyo,” Trade Undersecretary for Consumer Protection Ruth Castelo said.
The drug manufacturers and retailers assured the public that the supply will normalize this weekend, according to DTI.
