The Philippines most secured camp and the headquarters of the Philippine National Police is hiring security guards to protect its official home from intruders as confirmed by PNP officials.
According to a news report posted by PhilStar, the PNP Headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City will be employing a private security firm to manned the gates of their camp that housed tens of thousands of firearms in its armories.
The PNP has allocated P21 million to hire the services of security guards, PNP Director General Alan Purisima stated that the move was prompted by a decision to deploy PNP personnel doing non-security related jobs – such as those posted at Camp Crame gates – to regular police units and thus improve police visibility on the streets.
During an interview with the media, the PNP Chief was quoted as saying “The plan to have security guards detailed at Camp Crame gates will be implemented soon,” Purisima told reporters at the traditional “New Year’s Call” at Camp Crame on Wednesday.
The PNP Chief added further that “They will replace our policemen who will be deployed on the streets,” Purisima said. “The funds for that are already included in this year’s approved budget.” PNP Chief Purisima stated.
Camp Crame, the headquarters of the PNP is currently manned by about 100 members of the Headquarters Support Unit (HSS), they are (–foul word(s) removed–)igned to secure the three main gates of Camp Crame.
The PNP is considered as the largest armed personnel in the Philippines with a total of 150,000 members, the PNP has more personnel compared to the 120,000-strong Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel.
