PH Health Department Confirms 6,192 New COVID-19 Cases

PH CONFIRMS 6,192 NEW CASES – The Philippine’s Department of Health recorded 6,192 new COVID-19 cases on Friday.

However, since the government started its vaccine rollout in March, the positivity rate in the country is still below 12% for four days straight. Meanwhile, according to an article from ABS-CBN, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a positivity rate of below 5 percent for at least two weeks.

If the Philippines manages to achieve the feat, it would fall under WHOs criteria of country’s that have COVID-19 under control. Furthermore, the DOH also reported 177 more deaths due to the virus. But, 102 of those deaths were tagged as recoveries.

As per the article, this was the highest number of fatalities since June 11 wherein 196 individuals succumbed to COVID-19. Currently, the death toll in the Philippines stands at 24,973. Meanwhile, fatalities caused by the virus is at 1.75%.

As of now, the total number of COVID-19 infections recorded in the Philippines is at 1,428,518. Of that number, 3.9% or 55,482 are considered as active cases. Along with this, the number of recoveries in the country has increased by 2,212 or 1,344,063.

In terms of vaccinations, the DOH said they had already administered 11 million vaccine doses since it started its vaccination campaign. Still, the Philippines needs to vaccinate over 50 million people to achieve its goals of herd immunity.

Previously, vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. stated that the government aims to finish inoculation on November of 2021. Furthermore, additional vaccines from Moderna are expected to arrive in the Philippines at the end of July.
