Netizens react when Jolo Revilla blamed an intern over the “Ferdinand Magellan” mistake in a social media post.
JOLO REVILLA – Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla apologized but blamed the intern over the post’s mistake about “Ferdinand Magellan” as a Filipino hero.
In a social media post shared previously in the account of Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla, the caption has stated that Ferdinand Magellan is a Filipino hero. The post is about the 500th Anniversary of the Victory at Mactan. This is in commemoration of the battle in Mactan where Lapu-Lapu killed conqueror Magellan.
With the caption that ignited confusion of the Spanish expedition explorer for Lapu-Lapu, the Cavite vice governor, later on, expressed and posted his apologies. Revilla wrote on his Facebook page, “I apologize for the earlier confusing post on our celebration of Lapu-Lapu’s victory in Mactan 500 years ago.”
“An intern in our social media team posted the caption to our meme without first clearing it. Again, my sincerest apologies to our Cebuano kababayans (fellowmen) and to all Filipinos,” he added. The Portuguese explorer was the one who initiated the exploration as supposed first trip around the globe. The foreign people were defeated by Lapu-Lapu and warriors of Mactan island on April 27, 1521.
Here are some of the comments from his post:
At least po inamin at humingi agad ng patawad sa kanyang pagkakamali
The intern is your responsibility! Everyone makes mistakes , apology accepted
Ok na sana VG kaso public apology for the mistake of an intern sounds like blaming the person at fault for the said mistake.
baka po nalito lang siya pero ayos lang po ‘yon
Aside from being a politician, Jolo is also an actor. To recall, his mother Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado also made a mistake before that made a loud buzz online. She referred “COVID-14” as the global pandemic instead of COVID-19.
