DOJ Set Hands to Investigate Killing of Priest in Malaybalay, Bukidnon
The Department of Justice (DOJ) said Tuesday that they are ready to investigate against the killing of priest in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
According to the article of Manila Bulletin, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said he will let the Philippine National Police (PNP) investigate the killing of Fr. Rene Regalado, 42, before the DOJ’s Administrative Order (AO) 35 Task Force.
“As to the priest murdered in Bukidnon, we’ll wait for the police to uncover more facts before we decide to take any definite action,” he said.

Guevarra is the chairman of the AO 35 Task Force, also known as the Inter-Agency Committee on Extra-Legal Killings, Enforced Disappearances, Torture and Other Grave Violations on Human Rights, Liberty and Security. It was created under AO 35 released in 2012 by President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
Fr. Regalado was reportedly shot by unknown suspects near his monastery. He was found dead with a bullet wound in his head and an indication of beating due to the swelling in his left eye and the binding of his left hand.
Based on our previous article, Fr. Regalado received a death threat before the shooting incident happened. The death of the priest is whether has anything to do with his advocacy against illegal logging.
