3 Cebu Patients Suspected w/ New COVID-19 Variant Now Being Monitored by DOH-7
The Department of Health – DOH 7 is currently monitoring 3 Cebu patients suspected to have the new COVID-19 variant.
On Saturday (January 23, 2021), DOH-7 spokesperson Dr. Mary Jean Loreche reported that a 28-year-old lady passenger tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving at Mactan Cebu International Airport from Dubai.
Loreche said that the female passenger is the latest person included in the agency’s list of COVID-19 patients suspected to have the new variant of SARS-CoV-2. The authorities are verifying the patient’s exact date of arrival in Cebu via MCIA.
The Health Department spokesperson said that the woman’s sample will be send to PGC on January 25. The passenger is the third patient being monitored for mutated variant, which 70 percent more infectious compare to the original COVID-19.
A 54-year-old man from Dubai and a 35-year-old man from the United States are being monitored for the mutated virus. The swab samples of the two patients have been sent to PGC to determine if they are infected.
Meanwhile, the patients have been placed in a quarantine facility of DOH-7 as health officials are still waiting for the test results.
