Pres. Duterte Wants Philippines Border Control Strengthened
DUTERTE – Philippine Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte released an order to strengthen the border control of the Philippines through an API.
Undeniably, nations are stricter now when it comes to accepting people from other countries due to the threat of COVID-19. Also, even before the pandemic, countries are strict on the in and out in their borders for the safety of the people as well from those with ill motives.
Now that airports have opened once again and as well as other carriers, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte wanted the border control to be strengthened. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the President has ordered the strengthening of the border control through an Advance Passenger Information (API) system.

Based on the Executive Order 122, the API is an electronic communication which contains the information about the passenger including the personal data and the flight details. It will be forwarded to the Bureau of Immigration before the arrival or departure from any port of entry in the country.
Based on the report, Pres. Duterte also stated in his order that caption or owner of the carrier that is arriving or departing from any port in the Philippines must provide the API to the immigration.
The said order aims to “expedite the arrival and departure process of legitimate travelers during primary inspection”. The Bureau of Immigration which will have its own API may share the information for regional and international securitty.
The API will kept for not over 12 months unless there would be serious classification on it. Reportedly, the order of the President will take effect upon its publication in The Gazette.
