Pinoys are known to be big pageant fans and every pageant event is well-celebrated. However, just like other competitions, beauty pageants are also facing controversies from time to time.

The recently-concluded Miss Universe Philippines coronation night was not exempted. A controversy surfaced after Miss Iloilo Rabiya Mateo was declared as the big winner.

Pageant veteran Sandra Lemonon declared in her Instagram Story that she will reveal the “truth” as for her, the pageant result was not fair. Netizens, especially pageant fans, have mixed reactions to this Miss Universe Philippines controversy.

Pageant director Shamcey Supsup has not directly addressed this issue but she shared a post on her IG Story stating that “true queens” know how to accept defeat.

Apparently, there were those who are against the winning of Rabiya Mateo and declaring that she does not deserve the title. Based on the article by entertainment columnist Gorgy Rula in Pilipino Star Ngayon, there were rumors saying that the beauty queen from Iloilo City did not follow certain rules during the coronation night.

Rula said that on Saturday, a day before the coronation night was televised on GMA 7, there were already rumors that Miss Iloilo will be the winner. The coronation event that was shot at Baguio Country Club lasted until 3 am last Saturday.

Those who were included in the Top 5 were able to experience the crowning moment. Apparently, Rabiya Mateo reigned over the rest. However, the columnist pointed out that a source revealed that Miss Iloilo brought her make own hair and makeup artist which was not allowed.

A netizen made another accusation against Rabiya in a Twitter post of Miss Universe Philippines 2014 MJ Lastimosa. The former MUP had this tweet: “Talked to Inday A and Michelle. Still so positive true queens. love them both. sana kayo din.”

Twitter user @brightvc_winm claimed that Miss Iloilo was allegedly seen also without earphones during the question and answer portion and so she heard what have been asked to other contestants.
