Community Quarantine Measure in Metro Manila Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

METRO MANILA – Here is an update on the possible COVID-19 community quarantine measure to be implemented in the Metro this October.

One of the over 200 nations and territories hit by the COVID-19 pandemic is the Philippines. As of this writing, the Department of Health (DOH) has logged a total of 304,226 cases of coronavirus in the country.

More than 5,300 deaths were recorded by the DOH in the country due to coronavirus. As of this writing, 252,510 patients of the disease have already recovered.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought a lot of changes in the Philippines. Nowadays, it is already a protocol to wear a face mask when going outdoors.

Furthermore, the practice of social distancing is also a protocol most especially in public places and establishments like shopping malls, restaurants, churches, etc. Community quarantine measures are still up in the country now.

With regard to Metro Manila, it is currently under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ). Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the said quarantine measure may continue in all the cities in the Metro until October.

According to Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez who is the chairman of the Metro Manila Council, the mayors of the different cities in the capital region are in favor of extending the GCQ status in the place amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the report, the eyed extension is for another 30 days.

“So para ma-sustain ang ating strategy and procedure, baka i-continue natin ang ating GCQ until the end of October,” Mayor Olivarez said.
