The middle-eastern champion Qatar defeated the second-runner up of FIBA Asia 2011 and earned their first victory in the second round of the 27th FIBA Asia Championship with the final score at 75-61.
Qatar’s naturalized player Jarvis Hayes, the former NBA first round pick scored with 15 points and lead the five Qatari players who scored in double-figures for the team against Jordan on Monday, August 5, 2013.
The Qatar vs. Jordan game was tied during the first quarter at 23-all but the Qataris used its superior depth to slowly break away from Jordan’s defense. Qatar also took the advantage 61-52 before heading into the final period and they posted a 9-4 run to begin the fourth quarter to open up a 71-56 lead that Qatar controlled until the end.
With the victory of Qatar, they remains undefeated atop Group E, they will be battling against the Gilas Pilipinas this coming Tuesday. Meanwhile Jordan’s top scorers Mohammad Hadrab scored with 16 points and Wesam Al-Sous contributed with 14 points. Jordan’s naturalized swingman Jimmy Baxter scored with 12 points. Jordan suffered their third loss in the competition.
