ABS-CBN Gives Update On Jane de Leon’s New Darna Movie
DARNA MOVIE UPDATE – ABS-CBN gives an official update regarding Jane de Leon’s adaptation of the popular ‘Darna’.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the production of Jane de Leon’s version of Darna was suspended indefinitely. Along with this, the closure of ABS-CBN made it difficult to collect funds to continue production.
In a previous article, we learned that an additional P100 million was needed to continue filming the new Darna. However, ABS-CBN gave this statement regarding the franchise:
We are committed to following production guidelines under the ‘new normal’ and the safety of the actors and production team is a top priority. However, because the movie requires complex logistics, crowd shots, and fight scenes that involve physical contact, it will be difficult to give justice to the superhero film while strictly adhering to the guidelines
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN asserted that the rights to Darna remain with the network amid the postponement of production. Additionally, the statement ended with:
We are still in the midst of an unprecedented health crisis that makes it also difficult to assess when cinemas will recover and see audiences returning.
We thank the cast, staff, and production crew for all the hard work they put into the project. We are also grateful to the Ravelo family, Darna fans, and the public for their unrelenting support and understanding.
However, according to a PEP article, Darna was being offered as a TV-series. ABS-CBN was reported to have sent “feelers” to GMA-7 and TV5 if ever the two networks would be interested in buying the rights for the beloved Darna. However, it’s still unclear if there had been talks between ABS-CBN and its rival networks.
