Jane De Leon New Darna Film Dropped Due To Business Decision

NEW DARNA FILM DROPPED – It seems like the new Darna won’t be taking flight anytime soon.

Unfortunately, showbiz freshie Jane de Leon’s new Darna got dropped because of a “Business Decision” from Star Cinema. Furthermore, according to an article from PEP the film had already spent P140 million for production.

However, it would take another P100 million for the film to be finished. But, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the shutdown of ABS-CBN, finding funds for the project proved to be difficult.

Based on the article, producers said it would prove difficult to break even if the production costs P240 million. Furthermore, an insider said pushing Jane de Leon as a leading star would be difficult due to the ABS-CBN shutdown.

But, with the movie dropped, would the rights for the film be offered as a TV-Series instead?

According to the PEP article, Darna was being offered as a TV-series. ABS-CBN was reported to have sent “feelers” to GMA-7 and TV5 if ever the two networks would be interested in buying the rights for the beloved Darna. However, it’s still unclear if there had been talks between ABS-CBN and its rival networks.

Back in 2016, Angel Locsin quit her role as Darna due to health complications. Afterward, her role was taken over by Liza Soberano. But, due to a finger bone fracture, Liza also had to step down from the role.

Following Liza, Jane De Leon won the auditions for the new Darna and even got support from ABS-CBN’s top executives. Additionally, the script was even re-written to give Jane a “coming-of-age story” for her Darna.
