According to most experts, the vaccine for COVID-19 may finish development around December or early next year. Hoping to get priority from China’s vaccine, Duterte said in his address:
I promise you, by the grace of God, I hope by December, we would be back to normal..
Meron akong bakuna. Ang hingin ko sa inyo ganito, magtiis lang kayo ng konti dahil nga sa hawaan.
Duterte emphasized in his speech that the Philippines has a high possibility of getting the vaccine first from China as he cited the country’s promises. In contrast, Vice President Leni Robredo’s speech highlighted a detailed plan to combat the coronavirus epidemic in the country.
Meanwhile, Duterte’s hour-long address mostly comprised of talk about the vaccine, the budget, and how it would be distributed in the country. According to an article from Inquirer, the President also added:
Kaya bilib din talaga ako sa mga Chinese eh, baka ang una nating makuha from China
Currently, the Philippines has over 89,374 cases of COVID-19 reported along with close to 2,000 deaths. Yesterday, the health department recorded an all-time high number of infections with close to 4,000 cases of COVID-19.
However, the DOH also recorded a massive 38,000 recoveries due to changing their system of reporting “recovered cases”. Unsurprisingly, this caused a tremendous outcry from netizens and lawmakers alike as those who completed a 14-day quarantine were already tagged as recovered without final testing.
