Police Disguise & Introduced Himself As LBC Courier To Give Warrant
POLICE IN DISGUISE – Cristina Palabay, an officer of Karapatan, shared how a policeman disguised himself as an LBC courier to serve her a warrant.
In movies and western TV-shows about law, you would often see people dressing up to serve subpoenas. However, this should not be the case when serving warrants of arrests.
This was what happened to Cristina Palabay. On her Facebook account, she shared how she was served a warrant of arrests by somebody who introduced himself as an LBC courier. Moreover, the man had complete LBC Uniform and ID.
But, according to Palabay, this should never be the case. On her Facebook post, she wrote:
I told him, sir, that is not what is written in the PNP manual when you’re serving warrants of arrests. You should introduce yourself as policemen/arresting officers. You should be in uniform. In fact, you should have read to me my Miranda rights
What’s more concerning about the warrant was that she already had her’s recalled since last April. Palabay explained that there was a perjury complaint filed by NSA Hermogenes Esperon against Karapatan members, herself included.
However, the motion was dismissed by a Quezon City Prosecutor, but, it was revived by another prosecutor after Esperon’s motion for reconsideration. As such, warrants of arrests were issued for the Karapatan officers.
Although she explained on her post that she:
posted bail and presented myself to an executive judge via online channels. And I got the order for the recall of the warrant since April.
Upon confronting the policemen with this information, they apologized and said they merely received the warrant yesterday. They added that if they didn’t get a costume, people might escape.
Palabay added that the police that wrote their own bylaws are the ones that are breaking it themselves. She also asked for the ID’s of the policemen, photocopied them, and planned to submit a case to the proper venues.
