35 Motorists in Quezon City are Facing Charges for Various Bike Lane Violations
Over 35 motorists were apprehended and charged with different traffic violations while in the bike lane of Quezon City.
The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) recently conducted a “Oplan Habol” operation at Commonwealth and Quezon Avenue, where motorists who are violating the traffic protocols in bike lane are being charged.
Based on the report, out of 35 motorists apprehended, 19 private vehicle owners of them were charged with obstruction and illegal parking in the bike lane. While 3 motorists were arrested for passing a bike lane and 4 tricycles were arrested because they were allegedly banned on the highway.

Nine motorists were also stopped because the passengers in the vehicle were over the recommended passengers, as compliance with the social distancing due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19), according to HPG.
According to Police Col. Wilson Doromal, regional director of HPG in the National Capital Region, said many bicycle users are uninsured and are not yet accustomed to using such transportation. So other motorists should not cover bike lanes.
Increasing numbers of cyclists, mostly workers coming to work, followed the suspension of public transport during the lockdown, which was lowered to control the spread of COVID-19.
Although some types of public transportation have returned to the road after quarantine measures have been adopted, many are still cycling, and government and local government agencies are better off providing bike lanes.
