QC Barangay Follows Duterte, Gives SAP To Women

QC Barangay Follows Duterte, Gives Cash Aid To Women Instead Of Men

QC BARANGAY FOLLOWS DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Duterte announced on May 5 that women should be the ones to receive the cash-aid.

As such, Barangay Matandang Balara in Quezon City distributed the COVID-19 cash-aid to women. Duterte was displeased upon hearing that some men allegedly used the cash-aid for things like alcoholic drinks, illegal drugs, and gambling.

This caused the President to say that it would be better if women received the financial assistance. He explained that the would most likely use it for the needs of their entire family rather than in vices.

According to a report from the Manila Bulletin, Barangay Chairman Allan Franza stated that men who filled up SAP forms were required to present an authorization letter from their spouses or female relatives.

However, Franza stated that this had been implemented in his area even before instructions from Duterte. Although, some men disagreed with the new system, especially men who are single parents.

A construction worker even feared that because of this move, his wive needed to step outside of their home and exposed being infected with the virus.

On the other hand, others fear that their wives would be exposed to the virus if they went out. But, according to some, this reason would still be invalid as men are even more likely to get the virus than women.

Currently, the Barangay Matandang Balara has reported 41 cases of COVID-19. They have the third-highest number of cases withing Quezon City next to Barangay Batasan Hills with 57 and Culiat with 43 cases.
