Manila health workers who died due to the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) will receive this amount from the city government.

The capital city of the Philippines is one of the cities with the highest number of coronavirus cases. With the help of the local government in the leadership of Mayor Isko Moreno, frontliners continue to do their duties to flatten the curve.

However, it is inevitable that while in the line of duty, several medical frontliners also risked their own lives. In line with this, Mayor Isko signed the Ordinance No. 8639 or the Bagong Bayani Endowment Benefit Ordinance of 2020.

This aims to provide P1 million endowment benefit to the personnel from the Manila Health Department (MHD) or from district hospitals operated by the city government once they will be succumbed by the virus.

This was stated in the ordinance: “For purposes of this ordinance, health workers shall mean all persons who are engaged in health and health-related work, and all persons employed in all city-owned hospitals and Manila Health Department (MHD), regardless of their employment status.”
