These Senators support the ECQ extension
ECQ Extension – Some senators expressed support for the planned extension of the enhanced community quarantine as a measure to fight against COVID-19.
Almost a month ago, the community quarantine was implemented in the whole Metro Manila. A few days after, the EQC was implemented in the whole Luzon as well as many parts of the Philippines.
In a previous report, Carlito Galvez Jr., chief implementer of National Action Plan against COVID-19 stated that the ECQ might be extended in affected areas.
“Pinag-aaralan pa natin (kung mae-extend). Premature po kung mag-a-announce tayo ngayon, pero i-involve natin ang mga scientists natin, and ating mga doktor, specialists na titingnan po ang mga reference model ng ibang bansa,” Galvez said in a separate report.
This plan received support from some lawmakers, based on the report from Abante Tonite. Senator Bong Go said that “it would be best to extend the ECQ so we can effectively isolate the positive cases from the rest of the community and eventually get rid of the disease.”
He added that those who continue to go out of their houses continue to put their family at risk as well. Aside from Go, Senator Francis Pangilinan also agreed on this. However, Pangilinan said that along with the extended ECQ, there should be also an intensive testing.
He also said that the cash assistance for affected workers should be releases as soon as possible. Senator Win Gatchalian also expresses the same thought regarding this matter.
“Without mass testing, we are totally blind. And when we are blind, the risk is higher of spreading the virus again, thereby wasting the 30-day Enhanced Community Quarantine,” Gatchalian said.
Based on the report, he also pointed out that the continued rise in the number of confirmed cases is a valid reason for the EQC extension.
