Mayor Tobias Tiangco Imposes 24-Hour Curfew in Navotas City
Mayor Tobias “Toby” Tiangco has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Navotas City with the aim to keep the residents inside their houses.
Navotas City Mayor Tiangco has placed the area under a 24-hour curfew after dozens of residents continued to go out from their homes despite the community quarantine order showing a violation of the lockdown protocols.
Tiangco said that the police officers have already arrested and detained hardheaded residents who continue to go out. Around 135 people have been detained for defying the community quarantine order.
However, the City Mayor would allow the residents who will go out to buy food, medicines, and basic necessities. He will also exempt people who will go to work.
“We are now implementing 24-hour curfew, no need for an ordinance. The executive order is very clear and one can only go out to buy food and medicine and go to work if your place of work is exempted,” Tiangco said.
The politician also explained that they need to implement the measure to protect the lives of his constituents against the threat of coronavirus disease. He wants the residents to temporarily observe home quarantine to prevent being infected by the virus.
As of this writing, there are 105 persons under monitoring (PUMs) and seven persons under investigation (PUIs) in the city, according to Tiangco.
