10 People On Japan Cruise Ship Positive For Coronavirus, Thousands Quarantined On Board
JAPAN CRUISE SHIP QUARANTINED – Japanese cruise ship, Diamond Princess has been under quarantine after 10 passengers were found positive for the Wuhan coronavirus.
The cruise ship cut its 14-day itinerary short as is currently docked near the coast of Yokohama near Tokyo. Medical officials went from room to room to check up on the passengers for symptoms.
Several passengers reported feeling ill. However, Japan’s health ministry stated that the test for the coronavirus could take four to five hours.
The total number of passenger on board were more than 3,700. In addition, of this number, samples of 273 people were taken for examination.
Meanwhile, out of 31 results, 10 people have been tested positive for the virus. Those 10 were then taken to hospitals in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Based on a report from the Japan Times, passengers were asked to stay inside the cabin as testings were still in progress. Because of this, the Diamond Princess has been kept under quarantine since Monday.
Although Japanese officials were quick to respond to the case, new concerns were raised about how easily the virus could transfer from one patient to another.
According to an article from CNN, health authorities say patients can be infectious even when they do not present symptoms. Previously, it was learned that the incubation period for the virus was about 14 days.
Similarly, some 6000 passengers on a cruise ship in Italy were also quarantined last week after two passengers were suspected of having the Wuhan coronavirus. Luckily, health authorities revealed the two had a different flu virus.
