Panelo Says Duterte Wants To Emulate Marcos Strong Political Will
DUTERTE WANTS TO EMULATE MARCOS – Recently, President Rodrigo Duterte said he would arrest the two owners of water firms if they challenged him in court.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo stated that Duterte wanted to emulate the strong political will of Ferdinand Marcos. However, he does not mean he would resort to illegal actions.
Panelo explained that Duterte meant those who should be charged already. He added that if there was probable cause, the court could issue a warrant of arrest.
“They will be jailed. But Everything will undergo the legal process”.

According to an article by Inquirer, Panelo stated that he assured any arrest would be executed with the assumption that there is a warrant of arrest.
In a statement, Panelo said that there are times where even if there is a warrant of arrest, those who should be arrested do not face justice.
The Presidential Spokesperson said that is because these types of individuals had strong connections within law enforcement or even with the President. However, Panelo assures that won’t be the case this time.
Maybe what he meant was that Ferdinand Marcos had political will. Although the President’s political will is stronger. Maybe that’s what he meant

This was how Panelo interpreted what Duterte said when he threatened to arrest the owners of Maynilad and Manila Water if they would attempt to challenge the new water concession agreement in court.
Duterte wanted the two water concessionaires to accept the new terms of the agreement. If they reject it, the President stated he would cancel the existing deal.
Afterward, he would nationalize water distribution and charge the two concessionaires with economic sabotage, economic plunder, and large-scale estafa.
