TAAL CRISIS – President Rodrigo Duterte received criticisms for riding a motorbike amid crisis due to the Taal Volcano eruption.
On Thursday (January 17, 2020), Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go has defended President Duterte against his critics after indulging in a motorbike jaunt around Malacañang Palace amidst the current crisis.
The bashes criticized Mr. Duterte for taking a motorbike ride while thousands of affected residents from Taal’s eruption need the government’s help. The president together with his former top aide ride huge three-wheeled bikes around the Palace last Wednesday (January 15).
Bong Go defended the president and advised its critics to just focus on helping the affected residents of Taal’s eruption.
“The President works 24 hours. Can he not ride a motorcycle even for a short while just to remove the stress from work? The President has been in public service for 42 years and he is now 74 years old. To the critics, I hope you’d just help. Your criticism won’t be able to help or feed people. That’s a waste,” Go said.
Last Tuesday (January 14, 2020), Mr. Duterte visited the victim in Batangas to check the evacuees and he also apologized for his absence after the incident. The president’s flight from Davao to Manila has been canceled due to ashfall.
