Health Department Monitors Travelers Due to Mysterious Disease From China
MYSTERIOUS DISEASE – The Department OF Health is now monitoring the travelers from China due to a mysterious disease
On Monday (January 6, 2020), the Health Department said that they were doubly cautious in checking travelers from China wherein 59 people suffered a mysterious viral pneumonia outbreak.
Earlier, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III instructed the Bureau of Quarantine to intensify the surveillance of travelers from China coming to the Philippines. The airport personnel is using thermal scanners to check the passengers.
“Medyo doble ingat lang naman po tayo. Basta po galing China, mas tutok lang ang ating mga thermal scanner,” DOH Spokesperson and Undersecretary Eric Domingo said.
Domingo also said that passengers who have signs of mysterious illness such as fever, colds, and cough will be quarantined. The disease was initially reported last week in Wuhan, China but eventually leads to online speculations regarding the resurgence of the SARS virus.
Wuhan health commission reported that seven out of 59 affected individuals are seriously ill but none of them have died. All patients are now being treated in quarantine. Some patients were also experiencing breathing difficulty.
DOH also advised travelers to wear a face mask, wash hands regularly, and avoid crowded places to avoid contracting the illness.
