A Three-Hour Solar Eclipse Is The Universe’s Belated Christmas Present
THREE-HOUR SOLAR ECLIPSE – If you feel like you won’t get a present from your crush on Christmas, don’t worry! The Universe has got one for you!
Just a day after Christmas, a spectacular solar eclipse will be visible for three hours and 15 minutes. But, when will the eclipse occur?
According to an article from Esquire, it would start at around 12:36 p.m. and have its peak at 2:19 p.m. This would be when the moon is closest to the Sun’s center.
Following this, the moon would leave the Sun’s edge at 3:47 p.m. As per the article, the Philippines would have two-thirds of the sun eclipsed by the moon.
There would also be several viewing parties hosted by astronomy organizations across the Philippines. One of them is the Manila-based, Manila Street Astronomers who would post various free telescope viewing locations.
So where’s the best place in the country to view the eclipse? According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the best viewing spot for the eclipse is on Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
Solar eclipses only occur at a new moon when the lunar directly passes between sun and earth while lunar eclipse only happens during a full moon when the moon passes through Earth’s shadow.
If you’re caught up at work, take your lunch break, step outside your office and take a glimpse of the spectacle in the sky. However, don’t stare for too long, as it could damage your eyes if you don’t have protection.
