Who Is Ozamu Dazai? About The Japanese Author
OZAMU DAZAI – In this topic, we will now know and discuss about the Japanese fiction writer named Osamu Dazai.
Born Shūji Tsushima, he was a Japanese author and is a well known as one of the first fiction writers in 20th century Japan.
He was born on June 19, 1909 in the town of Kanagi, Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
His influences includes:
- Ryūnosuke Akutagawa – father of Japanese short stories
- Murasaki Shikibu – Japanese novelist, poet and lady-in-waiting at the Imperial court during the Heian period.
- Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky – Russian novelist, short story writer, essayist, journalist and philosopher.
Dazai’s works have intrigued the minds of many readers. His works include:

Dazai died on June 13, 1948 when he and Tomie Yamazaki drowned in the Tamagawa Canal that was swollen by the rain, which happened to be near his house. His grave is located at the temple of Zenrin-ji, in Mitaka, Tokyo.
