Baguio City To Prohibit the Use of Gadgets While Walking & Crossing Streets
The Baguio City Council would release a new ordinance that will prohibit the use of gadgets while walking or crossing the streets.
On Monday (July 1, 2019), Baguio City Council Francis Robert Ortega said that the new ordinance aims to secure the public safety.
Ortega explained that the use of gadgets and other cellular devices while walking in public places usually leads to accidents or troubles.
“Minsan makikita natin habang naglalakad, nakatingin sa device nila, minsan natatapilok sila or nauuntog sila or nakakabangga sila,” Ortega said.
The authorities would verbally warn the violators on their first offense, according to the ordinance.
In the second offense, violators would have to pay a fine worth P1,000 and require to perform community service.
In the third offense, offenders would be charged with P2,000 fine, required to do community service, and could face an imprisonment of not less than ten (10) days.
In the fourth offense, violators would pay P2,500 fine, to perform community service and imprisonment of not less than thirty (30) days.
However, the ordinance still needs the sign and approval of Mayor Benjamin Magalong before its implementation.
