Fake Priest Arrested After Extorting Money

A fake priest has been arrested after extorting money from the public in exchange of mass and other services in Tondo, Manila.

On Monday (February 11, 2019), a fake priest identified as Marlon Ponterez has been arrested by the authorities for extorting money.

The residents of Tondo, Manila were complaining about Ponterez who was asking for money in exchange of blessing houses.

“Nagbabasbas siya ng mga bahay at gusto niyang magpamisa roon. Pero ang nakapagtataka ay nanghihingi siya ng pera. At ang isang bahay nga ay pinanhik niya pa at sabi niya, ‘Bagong gawa, basbasan ko.’ At nanghihingi siya ng isang libong piso,” Police Superintendent Reynaldo Magdaluyo, Manila Police District Station 1 commander said.

Ponterez, a member of Sputnik gang usually roams around Tondo wearing a Soutane and carrying a fake holy water.

Magdaluyo said that the complainant saw Ponterez hiding the paper bills inside the Bible and giving a white envelope for solicitation.

The suspect explained that he was not extorting money since he was using it for feeding program and to support his five children.

He also admits that not yet ordained but he is serving as a missionary of the new congregation of former Aglipay apostolic Catholic.

“Nasa missionary pa lang po ako ng bagong congregation na dating Aglipay na apostolic Catholic,” Ponterez said.
