Catanduanes Hit by 6 Earthquakes Today (January 26, 2019)
EARTHQUAKES – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded six(6) quakes in Catanduanes today, January 26, 2019.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
One of the latest quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.
Recently, Phivolcs recorded six(6) quakes in Catanduanes today, January 26, 2019. Catanduanes was hit by earthquakes with magnitudes of 3.7, 2.3, 3.6, 2.5, and 2.2 (two quakes with 2.2 magnitude).
Phivolcs has released the information regarding the six(6) quakes that hit Catanduanes today on its Twitter page. The following are the information regarding the natural shaking in areas near Gigmoto and Baras:
At 03:20:06 am, a 3.7 magnitude quake was located 13.74°N, 124.94°E – 060 km S 86° E of Gigmoto. It has a depth of 019 km.
At 04:20:08 am, a 2.3 magnitude quake was located 13.65°N, 124.74°E – 040 km S 89° E of Baras. It has a depth of 005 km.
At 08:57:21 am, a 3.6 magnitude quake was located 13.60°N, 124.72°E – 039 km S 81° E of Baras. It has a depth of 008 km.
At 09:04:13 am, a 2.5 magnitude quake was located 13.58°N, 124.78°E – 045 km S 79° E of Baras. It has a depth of 001 km.
At 09:37:11 am, a 2.2 magnitude quake was located 13.71°N, 124.79°E – 046 km N 83° E of Baras. It has a depth of 007 km.
At 12:55:24 pm, a 2.2 magnitude quake was located 13.72°N, 124.82°E – 050 km N 83° E of Baras. It has a depth of 005 km.
According to Phivolcs, all the six(6) earthquakes that have hit Catanduanes today, January 26, 2019, are tectonic in origin. In its bulletin regarding the latest quake, the institution stated that no damage and aftershocks are expected.
