Department Of Health (DOH) Warns Pharmacies On Not Giving 12% Tax Exemption On Medicine For Diabetes, Hypertension
DOH- The Department of Health (DOH) reminds the pharmacies to give the VAT exemption on medicine for diabetes and two more in accordance to TRAIN Law.
According to DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III, pharmacies who will not comply and will not give discounts to patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol, are violating the law and will face charges. Duque furtherurged them to abide the law so that they will not have any problems.
According to UNTV News, Finance Assistant Secretary Tony Lambino noted that the said discount will not limit to senior citizens and persons with disability (PWD) as this applies to all patients suffering from the said ailments.
The senior citizens and PWDs have been enjoying the discount and the VAT exemption they received upon buying the medicines. Lambino further said that the exemption will be expanded also to individuals below 60 years old.
As per the report, Lambino further added that this measure will cause the government to lose ₱3.6 billion in tax collection.
On the other hand, the Department of Finance (DOF) proceed with the second package of the Comprehensive Tax Reform Program to respond to the financial gap following the implementation of the Universal Health Care Law.
According to Lambino, the gap amounted to ₱40 billion and they want to collect tax from alcohol and tobacco.
The DOF further urged the patients to secure an authorized prescription when purchasing the above mentioned medicines to avail for the discounted price.
