MIKE DE LEON – The “Citizen Jake” director Mike De Leon lambasts ABS-CBN Ball 2018 which was just held last September 29.
One of the biggest events in the show business industry gathering the brightest and famous artists from the Kapamilya network is the ABS-CBN Ball 2018.
As per a previous report, it was not just all about the glitz and glamour as the event is also a fundraising gathering for Bantay Bata 163 and the re-launched of its Children’s Village.
Actually, the stars who attended have worn and pinned a blue ribbon which accordingly signifies of preventing child abuse and blue is its international color.
A lot of people have also watched out for their favorite celebrities’ outfits and even naming as who wore the best and worst dressed one.
However, one person has expressed something about the event which has gathered a lot of reactions and irked some people.
The comment has come from the veteran and the “Citizen Jake” director Mike De Leon.
On Facebook with a username of the above-stated film, De Leon remarked, “In these dark times of murder and hunger, who really needs the ABS-CBN ball? Bread and Circuses again a la Imelda Marcos.”
The said post has stirred a debate among the netizens and De Leon explaining his point.
One of his replies stated, “Privately funded nga, but there are more sensible ways to promote a noble cause. Parang yung sinabi ni Marie Antoinette nung naghihirap na ang mga Pranses at walang makain. ‘Let them eat cake.’”
Furthermore, the director indicated as “why exploit abused children further” and insisted that it was just “showbiz exploitation”.
