4-5 More Typhoons As Strong As Ompong Expected To Hit PH During Last Quarter of 2018, PAGASA Says
The state weather bureau PAGASA has warned the Filipino people of 4-5 more typhoons as strong as Ompong to hit the Philippines.
On Monday (September 17, 2018), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the country was expecting four to five powerful typhoons.
About five typhoons as strong as Typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut) could hit the country in the last quarter of the year from October to December 2018.
PAGASA weather division chief Esperanza Cayanan recalled that the strongest typhoons usually hit the country during the last quarter of the previous years.
PAGASA’s climate monitoring and predictions section officer-in-charge Ana Liza Solis said that the tracks of the tropical cyclones during September are usually in extreme Northern Luzon and Central Luzon.
Solis also explained that Southern Luzon, the Visaya, and Northern Mindanao are the usual tracks of cyclone during October to December every year.
Science Undersecretary Renato Solidum Jr. urged the local government units to perform simulation drills for a possible landslide in the villages.
“Local officials can hold simulation drill. There is much information provided to them. These should be translated into action at the local level,” Solidum said quoted by MSN.
