Possible Oil Spill Monitored In Antique After Cargo Ship Got Stranded

The Philippine Coast Guard is now monitoring a possible oil spill in Antique after a cargo ship of MV Star of Liberty got stranded.

The crew and personnel of the stranded cargo ship at the coastal areas of San Jose, Antique have been finally rescued after the vessel got stuck and tilt.

The cargo ship has been reportedly stranded at Antique because of the strong wind and heavy rains over the past few days.

Coast Guard Western Visayas spokesperson Lt. Commander Ramil Palabrica said in a statement that the cargo ship of MV Star of Liberty has been already anchored for the past few weeks.

Palabrica explained that the heavy downpour and strong winds toppled the cargo vessel.

According to the coast guard chief, about 22 crew including the captain have been rescued from the ship.

Meanwhile, 10 of them are now under the custody of coast guard while 12 of them were rushed to Antique Provincial Hospital after suffering minor injuries.

The coast guard was also looking at the possibility of oil spill since MV Star remains on the area and working with the company to bring the ship to the safe area.
