Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon went to the micro-blogging site, Twitter to mourn the death of CNN Philippines senior anchor and broadcast journalist, Amelyn Veloso.
On Thursday, August 24, 2017, the broadcasting industry grieve as veteran correspondent Amelyn Veloso passed away at the age of 43 due to liver cancer.
Among who mourned the death of the newscaster was Sen. Gordon, who’s “heartbroken” over the passing of the Cebuana reporter.
Amelyn Veloso once worked with Gordon via defunct TV5 public service program, “Aksyon Solusyon”.
On social media, Gordon expressed sympathy to the bereaved of Veloso.
“The TV & radio industry has lost one of its most amiable & professional hosts. Kate & I send our heartfelt condolences to d family of Amelyn,” he tweeted.
He lauded Veloso for being a kind-hearted person.
“Im heartbroken over the loss of a great gentle & lovely creature of God, Amelyn Veloso. Not just a TV professional but a kind-hearted person.”
According to him, he was able to visit Veloso before she passed away.
“Last night, I had to step out of her room to sum up the courage to face her. When I went in, I saw a brave soul ready 2 be with our Creator,” he noted.
Born on April 25, 1974, the Cebuana correspondent took Broadcast Communication at the University of the Philippines-Diliman and a Master’s Degree in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines.
Amelyn Velosocame came to prominence in 1999 when she became an anchor of The Big News on ABC-5.
She later became a correspondent of numerous ABC-5 shows which later renamed as TV5. Among the shows she became part of are the following; Sentro, Sapul sa Singko, Aksyon, and Balitaang Tapat.
In 2013, she left TV5 and transferred to Solar News (formerly RPN9), then CNN Philippines.
She last appeared on CNN Philippines via Serbisyo All Access and CNN Philippines Newsroom: Morning Edition.
