The wife of Tab Baldwin released a video statement
Efi, the wife of Tab Baldwin, said in a video statement that she warned the Ateneo de Manila University that the children is not safe around the coach.
Basketball players Rene Baterbonia, 18, and Divine Adili, 21, died in a tragic incident. Reports stated that they died during a training in Dipaculao, Aurora on Monday. This devastated their families and friends.
Many prominent personalities grieved with their families and showed sympathy because of what happened that unexpectedly took the lives of two of the promising athletes of Ateneo.
Tab Baldwin spoke with remorse in a statement he released. He apologized for what happened. Following his statement, his wife Efi made a revelation. She claimed that she already warned the university in the past not to hire her husband, based on the report from The Manila Times.
“At the time, I repeatedly informed Ateneo de Manila University that children were not safe around him, and I urged the university to take action and remove him from the campus,” Efi said. However, the university did not believe him and allegedly, a “campaign of intimidation and silencing,” was done to her.
Even though they are is still married, Efi left him, and allegedly, this was because of their safety.
“My name is Efi, and I have been married to Tab Baldwin since 2011. I am still legally married to him; however, in early 2020, I had to leave him for my safety and the safety of my children,” she said.
Efi said that she has spoken after Baldwin’s statement regarding his family. She stressed that her husband does not represent her or her children.
Baldwin’s wife also expressed support for the family of Rene and Divine. She stressed that although the incident was unpredictable, it could have been prevented. “Their bodies are still warm, and yet he is speaking about moving on. That is unacceptable,” Efi said.
Then, she urged Filipinos, as well as the authorities to question why Tab Baldwin is still allowed around children despite the warnings.
As of this writing, the head coach of the Ateneo basketball team has not yet spoken regarding the statement of his wife.
