A teacher named Rona Batayen Beleganio in Negros Occidental died after the habal-habal she was riding fall into river upon passing through damaged bridge.

On Saturday (July 15, 2017), the remains of a 23-year-old teacher identified as Rona Batayen Beleganio from Sagay, Negros Occidental has been found by the authorities. The teacher died after the habal-habal she was riding fall into rider upon passing through overflow in Himogaan River, Brgy. Bato, Sagay City.

Beleganios’ remain was brought to a funeral parlor in Sagay City, while the authorities were still searching for the body habal-habal driver who was identified as Clodualdo Abisamis 28-year-old from Barangay Baviera.

The accident was caused by the strong water current, which prompted the habal-habal driver to lose control on his motorcycle. One of the major factors of the accident is the damaged bridge in the area, which is too dangerous for the residents passing through.

A Facebook user named Marlo Ducay was urging the local government unit (LGU) of Sagay City and even the national government to immediately repair the bridge as soon as possible. He also said that passing through the bridge of Himogaan River, Brgy. Bato in Sagay City was too dangerous for the residents.

Ducay also shared there are a lot of teachers passing through the bridge just to bring education for less-fortunate people in the area. He also urges the LGU to secure the safety of both teachers and residents passing through the bridge.

Some of the social media users were blaming the local government for their irresponsibility. The bridge in Himogaan River, Brgy. Bato in Sagay City was dubbed as the killer bridge because it is severely damaged, but still, there are no immediate actions taken by the government to address the problem.

Maam Beleganio was residing in Sitio Intaplan, Himogaan Baybay and teaching in Shermanhill Elementary School. Her friends and relatives have already sent their condolences and expressed their sadness for the death of the young teacher.
