Relatives of the passengers gathered at Belfast for the 105th Anniversary of Titanic Sinking.
TITANIC SINKING – One of the most unforgettable ship that has sank is the Titanic which battled against the waves on April 15, 1912.
Based on a recent news report in BBC News, the relatives of the passengers of RMS Titanic gathered on its 105th anniversary in Belfast. The gathering was specifically made at the Titanic Center which is near the place where the famous ship was made.
The Titanic sinking which is one of the most known incidents in waters has took the lives of more than 1,500 people. During its journey across the North Atlantic, it hit a giant iceberg.
According to the news report, the organizer of the event was the great-grandson of one of those who boarded the Titanic ship.
According to the man who collects memorabilia of the one of the famous shipwreck tragedy that history holds, Simon Medhurst, expressed that it was only in 2012 when he met his father that he discovered that he is related to one of the quartmasters of the ship, Robert Hichens.
He expressed that it was a “complete turnaround” for his life from someone who just collects Titanic memorabilia into a person “who is connected to it.”
According to Simon, it took two years for the organization of the gathering. He expressed that while some know stories about the people who survived the shipwreck, there are people who lost their relatives in that incident.
“But they are able to tell their story and they’re not forgotten, that’s the important thing,” he said.
Simon stressed that the Titanic story is really loved by the people. Based on the report, there are people who met their relatives during the event.
Through the event, Robert Shields was able to meet for the first time his third cousin Jan Jarvis. The brother of Shield’s grandmother was the lift operator of the ship.
