Senator Risa Hontiveros expressed interest in running for president.
During a press conference on Friday, Senator Risa Hontiveros expressed that she is “seriously considering” running for president in 2028.
The 2028 national election is still roughly a couple of years away, but as early as this year, the first one to declare interest in running for the presidency was Vice President Sara Duterte. This is amid her looming impeachment trial due to several grounds that included the misuse of confidential funds.

Recently, also expressing her interest in seeking a national post is Senator Risa Hontiveros.
During a press conference on Friday, Hontiveros made the statement in response to calls from various sectors urging her to seek the presidency in the next national elections. According to the senator, she is preparing for the possibility, and she is “seriously considering” it.
“I am seriously considering it, preparing for that possibility kay I think it is really necessary na magkaroon kami from our ranks ng strongest, best, most attractive, and hopeful offer sa ating mga kababayan at mga kapwa botante,” she said.
Hontiveros then added that she hopes that their group would be able to unite behind one candidate before the end of the year or no later than the first quarter of 2027. She believed that rallying for one contender would provide them a greater chance of winning in the 2028 polls.
“And I am looking forward to that moment na end of this year or at very, very latest sana for the first quarter next year, magkaisa kami sa aming ranks around whoever will emerge as the strongest contender,” Hontiveros said.
As for who should run, factors such as survey results and the extent of public support are being considered. The voter support would be the most important measure of a candidate’s viability.
