Marina Summers makes history as the first transwoman to host Miss Universe Philippines 2026. To recall, MUPH 2025 Ahtisa Manalo crowned Bea Millan-Windorski of La Union as her successor.
In an Instagram post, Marina expressed her gratitude for being part of the event. She remained grateful despite the mixed reactions that stemmed from her hosting performance.
Based on a previous article, Kaladkaren defended Marina against the naysayers, stressing her presence on stage was what truly mattered. She added that having a transgender woman host a major national beauty pageant is a powerful sign of progress, representation, and inclusivity. It shows that barriers are being broken and that the platform is becoming more accepting of diverse identities.
Among those who criticized her included Drag Race Philippines Season 3 queen Angel Galang, who wrote in a deleted post, “Binagot mo ang #MUPH. Totoong buhay lang.”
In the drag queen’s Instagram Notes, she also allegedly made a cryptic remark aimed at Marina, saying, “Chaka hosts MUPH.”
Netizens, as well as drag fans and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, immediately criticized Angel’s remarks. Following the controversy, Galang expressed deep regret for her previous statements. She specifically reached out to Marina, calling her “sister” and emphasizing that she is ready to face the consequences of her actions.
“Unang una sa lahat sorry mga alaga, award sena!! HARD loka!! Pero sorry I’m really really sorry hard especially to my sister, Marina,” Angel wrote in her post, and continued, “Na-overexpress ako at I know na MALI TALAGA AKO. I want to take accountability and responsibility dito mga nak.”
She thanked netizens and fellow drag queens for holding her accountable, saying it helped her grow into a better person.
Angel also acknowledged the queens who reached out to her, highlighting unity within the community. She clarified that she holds no bitterness toward Marina Summers, even with her recent milestones like hosting MUPH 2026.
She ended by celebrating her “sisters’” achievements and affirming her genuine support.
