Tragic Car Crash in Cebu Injured Several People Inside Public Jeepney
Several people were injured after a car crashed into a passenger jeepney on Monday morning in Barangay Tuyan, Naga City, Cebu.
CCTV footage from the area showed two children standing on the sidewalk while a woman carrying a small child was already near the highway. After a few moments, a passenger jeepney stopped to pick up passengers who were waiting along the road.
While one woman was in the process of boarding the jeepney, a sedan coming from the opposite lane suddenly crossed over and crashed into the front driver’s side of the jeepney. The strong impact caused the jeepney to tilt and lose balance.
The jeepney moved toward the side of the road due to the force of the collision and hit several people who were standing nearby waiting for a ride. The sudden accident created panic in the area as bystanders quickly rushed to help those who were hurt.
According to the Naga City Police, a total of 14 people were injured in the incident. Among those hurt were a two-year-old child and two senior citizens who were caught in the accident while standing near the road. Three passengers inside the sedan were also injured during the crash.
Emergency responders immediately brought the injured individuals to nearby hospitals so they could receive proper medical attention. Authorities also secured the area to prevent further danger to other motorists and pedestrians.
Initial findings from the police showed that the sedan suddenly entered the opposite lane before hitting the jeepney. Because of this, the driver of the sedan is now under police custody.
The driver may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to property.
