Homeless American Loses Wealth After Becoming Victim of Love Scam in Philippines

A homeless American in Parañaque City touched the hearts of many netizens after becoming a victim of a love scam.

Recently, Carrie Laine Abad, a Facebook user, shared her encounter with an American man who fell victim to a love scam. The post quickly went viral and received various reactions from people online.

The man, identified as Brian, is a 48-year-old American from Minnesota. Brian believed he had found love through an online relationship with a Filipina. The woman reportedly told him that she was studying Mechanical Engineering at Mapúa University and needed financial support to continue her studies.

Because he trusted her, Brian regularly sent money to help with her tuition, daily expenses, and future plans. He believed he was helping someone he loved while also building a future together.

However, everything changed when Brian decided to travel to the Philippines to finally meet her in person. When he arrived, he reportedly discovered that the woman was not actually enrolled in the university as she claimed. It was also learned that she was already married and had a child.

He faithfully sent money to a Filipina who claimed she was studying Mechanical Engineering at Mapúa University. He supported her tuition, living expenses, and dreams for the future. But when he finally traveled to the Philippines to meet her, he uncovered the painful truth: she wasn’t enrolled in school, she was already married, and she had a child,” Abad said.

Unfortunately, another relationship later drained what little money he had left, with some of it allegedly spent on online gambling.

During the pandemic, Brian’s business reportedly collapsed, leaving him with no stable source of income. With his savings gone, he eventually found himself homeless while staying in the Philippines.

People who encountered him in Parañaque said he could sometimes be seen walking barefoot on the streets because he no longer had basic belongings.
