Salvador Medialdea Defends Duterte Drug War: “It’s a national policy. Ano’ng pakialam ng ibang nations?”

Atty. Salvador Medialdea Now Part of ICC Legal Team of Former Pres. Duterte

SALVADOR MEDIALDEA – The former Executive Secretary of ex-President Rodrigo Roa Duterte defended the war on drugs of the former administration.

Ahead of the confirmation of charges hearing of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte over the case before the International Criminal Court, the Defense added six (6) Filipino lawyers to his ICC legal team. It is to ensure that the former President is represented by Filipinos in the foreign court’s proceedings.

Atty. Salvador Medialdea who accompanied former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte when the former Chief Executive was flown to Dubai en route for The Hague, Netherlands for the transfer of his custody to the ICC was one of the Filipino lawyers added to Duterte’s ICC legal team. The other lawyers added to the Defense are the following:

  • Martin Delgra III
  • Silvestre Bello III
  • Alfredo Lim Jr.
  • Caesar Dulay
  • Salvador Panelo

Prior to the confirmation of charges hearing, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte asked the ICC to disqualify the three (3) Filipino lawyers who represent the victims. The Defense claimed that the request is over an alleged conflict of interest.

The ICC denied the request of former Pres. Duterte. Meanwhile, the foreign court allowed him to skip the confirmation of charges hearing. His camp is confident that the claims against the former President are allegedly weak.

Recently, Atty. Salvador Medialdea defended the drug war of the Duterte administration. According to News5, speaking outside the ICC detention facility in The Hague, Duterte’s former Executive Secretary stressed that the campaign is allegedly a “national policy”.

We’re doing something. It’s a national policy. Ano’ng pakialam ng ibang nations? Ito gusto namin gawin para tumahimik ‘yung bansa namin,” Medialdea said.

According to Atty. Salvador Medialdea, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was allegedly tired with the problem in the country over the illegal drugs and crimes. Based on the post, the former E.S. claimed that the ex-President allegedly saw the anti-drug campaign as the last resort to end the problem.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte already gave her his blessings to run for president in 2028. The Vice President recently announced that she will take the presidential race in the next national polls.

Recently, also one of Duterte’s lawyer in his ICC battle, former chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo expressed his confidence in the presidential bid of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in 2028. He even reacted to the recent meeting of Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and former Vice President and Naga Mayor Leni Robredo.
