Man Faces Criticism After Throwing Cat From Bridge in Cavite

A man is facing heavy criticism online after a video showed him throwing a cat from a bridge in Indang, Cavite.

On February 17, 2026 (Tuesday), the man was caught throwing a cat from a bridge along East West Road in Barangay Kayquit 2.

In the viral video, the man was seen lifting a white cat and tossing it over the side of the bridge. An animal welfare group later claimed that the cat was pregnant at the time of the incident, making the situation even more upsetting.

Authorities began looking into the case after receiving a letter from an animal welfare organization. The suspect later appeared before the police to give his side. In his initial statement, he said that he had seen the cat after it had been run over and believed it was already dead. Because of that, he claimed he threw it off the bridge.

Police reminded the man that such actions are not allowed and said a deeper investigation is ongoing to determine his responsibility.

The animal welfare group Humane Philippines, led by its president Trisha Lim, announced plans to file a complaint against the suspect for violating Republic Act 8485, also known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998. The group believes the incident should not go unpunished.

After receiving a report that the cat might still be alive, the organization sent a rescue team to Indang. With the help of barangay officials, they searched the area but were unable to find the animal.

The group is expected to formally file charges on Monday, February 23, 2026, with the support of the town mayor.
