Filipinos Celebrate Lunar New Year w/ VP Sara Leading the Greetings
SARA DUTERTE – Vice President Sara Duterte shared her heartfelt greetings as Filipino-Chinese communities around the world celebrated the Lunar New Year.
Sara Duterte joined Filipino-Chinese communities in celebrating the Lunar New Year, extending her warm greetings and message of hope as the world ushers in the Year of the Fire Horse.
In a video statement uploaded on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Duterte addressed not only the Filipino-Chinese community in the Philippines but also those around the globe who are marking the festive occasion. She encouraged the public to sincerely embrace the arrival of the new lunar year and the opportunities it may bring.

“Happy Lunar New Year to our Filipino-Chinese communities around the world! Xin Nian Kuai Le!” she began.
Highlighting the significance of the Year of the Fire Horse, the Vice President underscored the themes of courage and boldness associated with it. According to her, the year carries an energy that favors decisive action and bravery.
“As we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, let us embrace this beginning with courage. This is a year of high energy and bold action—offering big rewards for those with the courage to take them.”
Duterte emphasized that the occasion is not only a time for celebration but also a moment for reflection and renewed determination. She called on Filipinos to reignite the spirit of unity and cooperation that has long been embedded in the nation’s culture.
“Now is the time to ignite the spirit of bayanihan and charge forward into a new year of possibilities,” she said.
Encouraging collective progress, she added, “Together, let us strive for growth.”

The Vice President also expressed her hopes for prosperity, health, and peace for every Filipino household as the new lunar year begins. She stressed the importance of solidarity in building a more progressive and abundant nation.
“May this year bring abundance, good health, and peace to every home. Magkaisa tayong itaguyod ang isang mas maunlad at masaganang Pilipinas para sa lahat,” she stated.
Concluding her message on a festive note, Duterte greeted everyone once more with, “Gong Xi Fa Cai!”
Through her message, the Vice President reaffirmed her support for the Filipino-Chinese community and highlighted the shared aspirations of unity, prosperity, and national growth as the country steps into a new lunar year filled with promise.
