This is why Vice Ganda doesn’t want to see her scholars.
Kapamilya Superstar Vice Ganda has been granting scholarships to several students, but she doesn’t want to personally meet them.
Celebrities often have scholars as their way to give back to the community and use their influence to support meaningful causes. This is their way to pay it forward, use their financial capacity to support education, strengthen advocacy, and create a legacy.
In the Philippines, Vice Ganda is among the celebrities who have scholars. She partners with other personalities to send more deserving students to schools; however, the superstar comedian has not met her scholars personally.
There were some who went to It’s Showtime to personally thank her, but generally, it has been her decision not to meet them, as she doesn’t want to be attached to them.
“Kasi hindi ko sila personally nami-meet. Ayoko din, kasi ayokong ma-attach. Tapos ayokong sumama yung loob pag yung hindi nabayaran yung tulong. Kasi, may mga ganun din, e,” she explained, adding that, at the same time, she is also avoiding disappointments as there were those who don’t give importance to the opportunities they give.
“Meron din kaming tinulungan na tinulungan mo na nga, hindi pinahalagahan, yung ibinagsak pa yung pag-aaral. Binigyan mo ng baon. Binigyan mo na ng pang-tuition, lahat ng kailangan, pero hindi pa… So, nakakasama ng loob. So, yun!” she said.
For Vice, providing scholarships and educational support to students in need is very personal. She was once a scholar of a Japanese sponsor, and with gratitude. She can still remember the name and the address of her sponsor, one of the reasons why she was able to finish her studies.
She never met her Japanese sponsor, but she always remembered the name. Her sponsor was a Japanese woman named Noriko Tokura from Kyoto, Japan. Just like her sponsor, she just wanted to provide and give it out to the world without knowing if it would return to her or how it would come back.
