Thief Shows Respect to Victim After Being Caught Stealing Inside Store Mandaluyong
A thief pretending to show respect after being caught stealing inside a store of an elderly woman in Mandaluyong.
On Saturday morning, a thief tried to pretend he was about to show respect to an elderly woman when she caught him inside her store in Barangay Daang Bakal, Mandaluyong City. The act was caught on CCTV.
According to the victim, Raynalda Serdoncillo, she was taking a nap when the suspect quietly entered her small store. She woke up to find the man sitting near her, acting like he was about to make a respectful gesture as if he was a relative.
“Bigla akong nagising, nakita ko na lang ‘yung mama nakaupo rito, magmamano siya, sabi ko sa kanya “anak ng, sino ka?!” tapos bigla siyang lumabas,” Serdoncillo said.
Confused and alarmed, she questioned the stranger, causing him to immediately run out of the shop.
The CCTV footage revealed what really happened. Before the elderly woman woke up, the man had already taken her cellphone and tucked it into his pants. He also tried to steal the store’s cash box, which contained more than P10,000.
However, before he could carry it out, someone outside started singing, causing him to panic and put the box down. His hesitation prevented further loss.
A lookout was also caught waiting outside, watching the area and making sure no one else came in. The calm manner of the suspect as he left surprised the family, as he simply stepped over a wooden divider and walked out as though nothing had happened.
The family immediately filed a report with the barangay and coordinated with the police. They later found out that the suspect was a known thief from Barangay Addition Hills. Authorities quickly went to his address, but he was no longer there.
A warrant has already been issued, and officials are confident that his arrest is only a matter of time. Security in the area has since been tightened, with barangay patrols roaming around the clock to ensure residents’ safety as the search for the suspects continues.
